Frequently asked questions.

What is the Ohio Women’s Inter-City Bowling Tournament?

The Ohio Women’s Inter-City Bowling Tournament is an annual women’s bowling tournament created to bring the bowlers together. The vision put together in that very first organizational meeting has expanded from a 1 weekend event to cover currently 8 weekends, celebrating camaraderie, competition, and bowling excellence since 1929.

Who can participate in the tournament?

Women bowlers who are members of a USBC-certified league in Ohio are eligible. Those sanctioned leagues must be in cities with a population of 75,000 or less. USBC Members of leagues from Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo and Youngstown are ineligible.

How are tournament locations chosen?

Locations are selected by the OWICBT Board based on bids from local bowling associations that meet the hosting criteria. Tournament hosting requirements are listed on our website. Criteria may also be subject to change, or exceptions made, with board approval. Talk to your local bowling alley about hosting and review the requirements with them if you are interesting in the OWICBT coming to your area!  We love (and look forward to) new places to hold the tournament, and in some cases, returning to some favorite places!

Where can I find the schedule and results?

The schedule and results are posted on the official website and Facebook page. Each week the unofficial results will also be posted on site at the current tournament location while it is being held. Results are always unofficial until the final calculations and certifications are done.

Are spectators allowed at the tournament?

Yes! Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend, with designated seating areas at the venues. We love seeing the support our bowlers get from their family and friends!  We just ask that only bowlers be in the bowling area (paddock) and that spectators please give bowlers the choice of seating first since it is their competition.

When is the annual meeting?

The annual meeting for the Ohio Women’s Inter-City Bowling Tournament is held the first Sunday of the tournament schedule. It will be held in the afternoon once the only squad bowling for that day has concluded. All Inter-City bowlers are encouraged and urged to attend this meeting.  This is where you can make your voice be heard, whether it be for recommendations, asking questions or giving other feedback.

What if one of our bowler’s doesn’t have their sanction card or know their sanction number?

Bowl.com makes it easier now to look up averages along with sanction numbers.  Bowlers can go online and print off their sanction cards prior to the competition.  They can also look them up at the tournament site on their cell phones either through the website or using the Bowl.com app to present at check-in at the tournament.

I received my confirmation letter and it is showing one of my teammates with a 225 average and that is not correct. Why is it showing that way?

The 225 is the scratch score for the tournament for anyone who does not have a verified average or does not have an average that has been established yet through a sanctioned league. If your bowler cannot be verified on Bowl.com when averages are checked, this will be entered so that board members know that the bowler should be bringing a league standing sheet with them to verify what their average should be coming into the tournament and to verify enough games have been bowled. Averages and handicap will be corrected once we have that verification. Any bowler not meeting the average requirements will bowl scratch average 225.

How many times can someone bowl in the tournament?

Each entrant is permitted to bowl (as a regular or a sub) no more than twice in each event. Team must change at least two members to be considered a different team. Doubles must change partners. Singles you can only cash once, even if you bowl high enough scores twice.

Do I have to bowl all 3 events (Teams, Doubles, Singles) in the tournament in order to be able to participate?

We encourage you to bowl all 3 events, however you can choose which events you prefer! Most participants bowl all 3 so they can enter All Events as well. You do not have to bowl in Teams to be able to bowl in doubles and singles and vice versa. Entrants also have the option to bowl doubles and/or singles.

I am confused.  What is All Events?

All Events is an optional event based off the first scores you bowl in each event.  You have to bowl in all 3 events (team, doubles and singles) to be eligible to enter it.  You can choose if you want to enter All Events with Handicap, without Handicap (Scratch) or both ways.  All Events is not only an easy way to win more money, but also to have even more competition!

Help! One of our bowlers cannot bowl now.  What can we do?

If you are not able to secure a sub bowler for them, we can ask the local association to find you one.  Please make sure to give us enough time to locate one and get them there. The sooner the better. We prefer at least an hour before you are scheduled to bowl. A sub form will need to be filled out with the sub’s information. If you have secured a sub, please report to the tournament office an hour before your scheduled bowling time. A sub form will need to be filled out with the sub’s information. They will also need to provide their sanction card and either be verifiable on Bowl.com or provide proof of average if they are establishing this season.

What if I cannot field a full team or I cannot find a doubles partner?

We encourage you to put your entry in, with the spot paid, and continue your search for a bowler.  If you still cannot find someone to bowl in the empty spot by the time your bowling weekend has arrived, we will ask the local association to find you someone to fill that vacancy so that you can still participate in the tournament.  We know you don’t want to miss out on the fun, competition, or making new friends!

What is the dress code for the tournament?

Bowlers are expected to wear suitable attire for participation in the OWICBT. Examples of prohibited attire, but not limited to, include:

  • Tank tops, including spaghetti strap tops
  • Halter tops
  • Short tops that show midriff
  • Workout attire, including yoga pants and tight leggings
  • Short length shorts, skirts, and culottes (must be longer than fingertips when your arms are resting along your sides)
  • Bib overalls
  • Cutoffs

Bowlers will be required to change if attire is deemed inappropriate by tournament management. Tournament management’s decision will be final.

How can I make sure I get the dates I want for next year?  The dates I wanted this year were already full.

We highly encourage you to fill out a reservation form while at the tournament this year and turn it in.  The current tournament bowlers can turn them in during the tournament, making it so you can try and keep your same weekend or switch it to another one for the following tournament. After the tournament concludes, reservation forms won’t be confirmed until after July 1st. Entries with reservations will need to be in, with payment by November 15th to ensure that your spot is kept. If changes need made, please contact the OWICBT secretary as soon as possible.

How can I contact the OWICBT Board?

Please contact the President or Secretary through one of the contact options at the bottom of this page (Contact Us section) or through our Facebook page.
